Our Approach

At Strides Psychological & Behavioural Services, we believe in celebrating people for who they are and in supporting them so that they can find happiness, fulfillment, and peace.

We believe we have a responsibility to help to create an inclusive community. Our approach is centred around improving quality of life for our clients and their loved ones.

We pride ourselves in our ability to accurately assess our clients’ strengths and any obstacles that may be in their way, and in our compassionate and practical approach to addressing client concerns.

We would like to acknowledge that we are on treaty 6 territory, the traditional lands of the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Metis, Dene, and Nakota Sioux peoples. We recognize and respect their enduring connection to this land, and we are grateful to live and work here.

Why Strides?

The name “Strides” was inspired by a technique used in track and field during training sessions.

It refers to running a relatively short distance at a controlled, fast pace, focusing on smooth and efficient leg movement, proper posture, and full range strides. These are designed to help improve running mechanics and increase acceleration and speed.

We believe that this technique serves as a powerful metaphor for the approach we take to helping our clients. Just like in track, the strides we take with our clients are strategic and practical and are designed to make life easier.

Psychoeducational Assessment

A psychoeducational assessment is a comprehensive evaluation that provides valuable insights into an individual’s cognitive, academic, and social and emotional functioning.

They are conducted by a registered psychologist and are used to understand a person’s strengths and to help explain current challenges. These assessments are often used to identify a variety of contributing factors, such as learning disabilities, developmental disorders, and emotional and behavioural concerns.

Assessments typically take 3-4 hours of face-to-face client contact time. At the end of the assessment, you will be given a comprehensive report that outlines all the information collected during the assessment, including a diagnosis if appropriate, and recommendations for how to move forward.

Behaviour Assessments & Consultations

Behavioural Therapy involves a comprehensive, culturally-responsive  assessment to develop personalized, evidence-based interventions and strategies that promote positive change.

Through close collaboration with our clients, their families, and community partners, we help build on strengths and explicitly teach skills that will improve quality of life and promote greater independence.

We pride ourselves in providing compassionate and individualized care and treatment plans for every individual and family we meet.
